Career And Technical Education (CTE)
Career & College Readiness Opportunities
In recent years, the focus of Career & Technical Education (CTE) has evolved from a primarily college-preparatory approach with career-related classes to a more inclusive and comprehensive framework. Today, Career & College Readiness encompasses a variety of pathways to help students prepare for their future. These include:
Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses offered through the high school
Dual enrollment opportunities
Work-Based Learning experiences
Early Middle College programs
Military training
Trade schools and apprenticeships
Traditional career and technical classes available at the Genesee Career Institute
This shift emphasizes the importance of “soft skills” and career readiness alongside academic preparation. It reflects a broader perspective on post-secondary success, recognizing the diverse options available to students after high school.
A key element shared across these pathways is the need for real-world applications during high school, such as hands-on learning and workplace experiences. These opportunities equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in college, careers, and beyond.
At Fenton High School, we offer a variety of Career & College Readiness opportunities including the following:
CTE Classes Offered at Fenton High School
Accounting I & II

FHS Work-Based Learning Program
The Work-Based Learning program provides students with a combination of school-based preparation and actual work experience; the class enables students to acquire attitudes, skills, and knowledge for career and other life roles in real work settings. WBL students gain a realistic understanding of work in the real world as it relates to a chosen career interest, as well as time management and organizational skills, while they explore a career field before graduating from high school.

Students enrolled in Career & College Readiness programs gain access to a variety of enriching opportunities that prepare them for future success. These include:
Field trips related to their curriculum
Presentations by guest speakers from various industries
Opportunities to earn articulated college credits and/or industry-recognized certifications
Each Career and Technical Education (CTE) program follows a curriculum designed to align with multiple college programs. Most colleges honor these credits, allowing students to save time and money on their post-secondary education.
For example, a student who completes Accounting I at Fenton High School can earn four college credits at Mott Community College toward an Applied Accounting degree—at no cost to the student!

Gain real-world workplace experience
Engage in community service
Build skills to succeed in their post-secondary education or careers
Our mission is to empower students to explore and pursue their future pathways. We encourage you to discuss these exciting opportunities with your child and consider enrolling in one of our Career & College Readiness programs.
